Military Sealift Command Courses
Small Arms:
This 4-day course is designed to certify mariners to safely, responsibly, and effectively employ firearms including the M9 Service Pistol, M500 Shotgun and M14 Service Rifle in the performance of their duties and is IAW OPNAVINST 3591.1 Series Standards. This course will also provide certification in Use of Deadly Force training and Warning Shot training.
Ship Reaction Force:
This 3-day course utilizes classroom and practical labs to train mariners serving aboard ships under MSC OPCON and ADCON control and serving on Reaction Force Teams. Students will learn procedures used in performing duties in crisis situations. This includes tactics, equipment, communication, use of deadly force standards, tactical room entry, hostage situations, team movements and close quarters combat.
Security Watchstander Basic:
This 6-hour course certifies mariners to effectively perform duties of a watchstander. Students will learn how to perform personnel, bag and package searches. In addition they will learn procedures for bomb searches and tactics upon device discovery. Force Protection levels and responsibilities will also be learned by the students.
Security Watchstander Advance:
This 1-day course will certify mariners in the tactics and use of handcuffs, batons and MACH holds and takedowns.
Chemical, Biological and Radiological Defense:
This 1-day course is designed to inform personnel of the hazards that are associated with weapons of mass destruction. Students will learn how to best protect themselves and their ship and recover from these hazards and what their own or shared responsibilities are in a CBR environment.
Marine Environmental Protection:
This course outlines duties and responsibilities with regard to the federal laws governing Sewage, Oil and Oily Waste, Oil and Hazardous Substance Spill Response, Ozone Depleting Substances, Non-Indigenous Species and Marine Mammals, and Hazardous Materials.
Damage Control:
This course is designed to meet the Military Sealift Command (MSC) damage control training requirements. The course is highly recommended for all mariners. Attendees will learn to perform as members of a damage control team to combat various types of shipboard damage including patching holes, dealing with flooding, torch cutting and reinforcing structures.
